Shepherd Scott as arrived!

February 8, 2011

We are proud to announce that our sweet little (BIG!) guy, Shepherd Scott, arrived on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 8:03 a.m.

He weighed in at 10 lbs, 6.2 oz and was 21.75 inches long!

He has been nothing but a sweet addition to our family and is eating and sleeping like a champ – I guess that it pays off to the be the size of a 2 month old :-)

Newborn diapers never fit him – the postpartum nurse at the hospital had to steal some size 1 diapers from the pediatric unit, and he is comfortably wearing 0-3 month clothing and even a few of his 3 month clothes.

Shepherd had his first doctor’s appointment yesterday and had gained 1 lb. back since we left the hospital on Friday…so 1 lb. in 3 days – woah….he had lost 1 lb. of his birth weight in the hospital, but has already rebounded. Dr. D. said that his 1 kidney seems to be very healthy and we are just waiting to follow-up with a pediatric nephrologist for some additional imaging in the next 2 weeks or so; there is still a chance that he does have a 2nd kidney that is just in the wrong place.  Praise God for Shep’s health!

LP has been a loving big sister and has been doing very well with the transition. So far I do not see any signs of jealously and RC and I are both making a point to be conscious to spend 1-on-1 time with her still and to keep our routine as normal as possible. I was also warned that she may regress in her potty training (she has been trained since August ’10), but it has been the exact opposite – I still had her in diapers at night and nap times and she told RC the other day that she will not be wearing a diaper any more at nap time because she is a big girl…and we have 3 dry nap times going for us with her in her panties and getting up to take herself to the bathroom.

My mom is here helping us until Sunday, which has been fantastic as we figure out a new routine. Shepherd has been sleeping for 5-6 hour stretches at night, which is fantastic! I have had a head cold/sinus infection that I have been on antibiotics for since the day we left the hospital, but aside from that nastiness I am feeling really good.

Friends, family and our church family have been so loving and gracious to our family, showering us with phone calls, meals, visits, flowers, FB messages, texts, e-mails, etc! We feel so loved and cared for in the celebration of Shepherd’s arrival. Thank you to everyone, we are blessed.

I will do a separate post about Shepherd’s actual birth – nothing graphic, just a few details for anyone interested!
